Who is Dave Sharp?
My name is Dave Sharp, and I'm the creator of Savor the Fruits of Life TM.
I attended Del Campo High School in Carmichael, CA, back in the late '70s. It was sometime during my time there that a "lonely bum" changed me forever.
This self-proclaimed "lonely bum" had found himself one day staring at a small handgun in a pawnshop window and thinking of "ending it."
He said the gun was only $29, but he didn't have the guts.
It was winter in Cleveland, and he was cold. He began spending time in libraries because they were warm, free, and quiet.
He said, "Among all those books I began to search for answers. Why had I failed? How did I come to ruin my life and the lives of those who loved me most? Where had I gone wrong? Most important, was it too late for a 35-year-old loser to make something of his life?"
He read the Bible many times and became intimate with the old philosophers. He studied the great self-help authors, like Dale Carnegie, Norman Vincent Peale, Maxwell Maltz, Napolean Hill, and others.
I won't go into all the details of his rise from the ashes, but this "bum" was none other than Augustine Mandino. His name "Augustine" at some time in his life was shortened to simply “Og,” and he became Og Mandino.
Several years ago Og Mandino wrote a little book called The Greatest Salesman in the World. This little book went on to become one of the greatest self-help books in history, not to mention one of the most powerful books ever written on selling.
This little book was the book I found and read as a high schooler. I can't even remember why I read it, but I am deeply grateful I did! It had a huge impact on me! I remember thinking then that some day I was going to impact people the way Og Mandino had impacted me.
From then on, I was hooked on what makes people successful. I was particularly interested in finding the answer to this question: How do we get what we want out of life?
I spent the next 25 years studying, learning, and preparing myself. Unfortunately, I had to spend over 20 years pursuing "security" before I finally decided to listen to the small voice inside that said: "Do it! Now's the time!"
So I did! I created Savor the Fruits Training & DevelopmentTM.
At first I did some business consulting for a while, but I gradually felt a desire to focus on personal development. Consequently, I created and wrote a weekly electronic magazine entitled Savoring the FruitsTM. I really enjoyed writing and publishing this magazine! I ended up with subscribers in over 20 countries, and I was receiving comments from my subscribers on the positive impact my magazine was having on them.
In spite of that, I felt it was time to refocus on business. I felt I had so much to offer companies that I didn't see being offered very much. I felt that maybe I could offer some unique value.
Through Savor the Fruits of Life TM I share with you the Wisdom of the Ages, the timeless principles that all highly successful people and organizations have used to create their success.
By now, I assume you've reviewed my site a little, and you're probably wondering who the heck this Dave Sharp is.
As I thought about what questions you might have about me, I came up with the following 5 questions:
1. Who is Dave Sharp?
2. What does Dave have to offer?
3. How is Dave different than all the other business consultants and trainers?
4. Why should I trust Dave?
5. How can I know if what Dave says is true?
First Question: Who is Dave Sharp?
I won't bore you with all the details of my work history here. If you'd like to learn about my background, at least over the last 10 years or so, you can review my Resume.
Let me just say that I've spent the last 20 years in Sales, Sales Management, Marketing, Marketing Communications and Training. At the end of my corporate career I managed a $500 million territory as a West Region Sales Manager representing a global multi-billion dollar company.
As a result of what we were doing in my region, our sales quotas and sales growth targets were nearly double that of the other 2 national regions.
In addition to my business career, I've spent over 25 years formally and informally teaching principles that help people improve their lives.
I realize that there are tons of highly qualified business consultants and trainers who have already contributed so much to helping companies achieve more. I myself have learned so much from them -- and continue to do so.
In fact, before I decided to start this company, I often wondered how in the world could I offer anything of value that they haven't already offered. What unique insights could I offer that could make your company better, that would help you get more of what you want faster?
Then I began to think back over the years on the many people who have approached me after my classes or trainings, or who have sent me postcards or letters. These people told me how much they appreciated my lessons or presentations and how much they had benefited from what I taught.
I also had several people tell me that I'm one of the best teachers they've ever had or how much they enjoyed my classes.
Some even told me that I should be a motivational speaker or go into professional training. They said I have "a way" of explaining things that touches people's hearts and impacts their lives.
In addition, a previous boss of mine once told me that one of my greatest strengths was the ability to break down complex subjects into simple-to-understand concepts that people could grasp and implement. He believed that this capability would serve me well as I moved into my own business.
Finally, I began to recognize some concepts that I had come to understand in a way that I didn't see presented much by all the high-profile trainers and consultants whom I had studied and experienced over the years.
These concepts have made a huge difference in my life as well as countless others' lives. I believe they'll make a big difference in your life and business as well.
So I took the leap! I now have the incredible pleasure of focusing my entire energy and attention on doing what lights my fire!
Second Question: What does Dave have to offer?
As I thought about what my offering would be, I thought back on the many questions I've had about Life and business over the years. Maybe you've had some of these same questions:
What is true happiness?
How can I obtain true happiness?
How can I obtain true peace?
How can I achieve greater success personally and professionally?
How can I achieve better health?
How can I get more of what I want faster?
How can I heal emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically?
How can I increase my value in the marketplace?
How can I build better relationships?
How can I become more motivated?
How can I become more focused?
How can I help people more?
And many others.
I've searched for these answers for most of my adult life. What it really comes down to for me is this one question: "How can I achieve whatever I desire to achieve?" After all, isn't this the greatest question we could ever answer?
So I thought extensively about business success: what it is and how to get it.
What I came to understand is that the answers to those questions lie with a correct understanding of…
…The Nature and Character of Life
…The Nature of Man
…The laws and principles that govern Life
…How to apply those laws and principles within one's own life
I truly believe that with this understanding, you can live life more abundantly and reach your divine potential.
Third Question: How is Dave different?
Let me first explain that very little, if any, of the concepts and principles I present through Savor the Fruits of Life. I take no credit for them. They have all come to me either through the wisdom of those far more wise and intelligent than I or through the Higher Wisdom that exists within me.
Therefore, if you've done a lot of study in self-help, you'll see that many of the ideas aren't new. However, I believe that what you'll find is a unique presentation of these concepts that pulls them all together in a way the makes them easy to understand and implement.
Having said that, I think there are several differences between what I offer and what the rest of the success trainers and teachers offer. Here, I'd like to mention only three.
First, I've spent almost 30 years studying personal growth and trying to learn everything I could. And over that time, somehow I kept missing something, because it seemed that no matter what I did I could never really quite create the results I desired.
It wasn't until the last few years that some major pieces to the puzzle were brought to me and put into place. As they were, I've thought many times: "Wow! If only I had understood that earlier!"
Maybe I wasn't ready for those missing pieces until they came. Maybe I needed the contrast of not achieving my goals so I could become open to learning what I needed to learn in order to achieve. I have to believe there's much truth to that.
Nevertheless, I think that if I can help others short-cut their own progress by having these pieces in place more quickly than I did, they can create the lives they desire to live much faster.
The pieces to which I'm referring provide a basic understanding of the Nature and Character of Life and of our own selves as well as the Laws and Principles that govern Life.
I've come to see this collective body of truths as the Foundation for all Creation. For me, the other pieces that the vast majority of success trainers are teaching seemed to fit much better when I was able to put the Foundation into place.
I believe my understanding and perspectives on these topics are unique and powerful.
Second, over the many years that I've studied personal development I've read seemingly countless books and attended seminars, etc, all the things one does when on a quest for answers.
While I have many favorite success trainers and teachers, I began to see that a vast majority of them offer methods that, in my mind, manipulate our emotional or mental parts to produce desired results rather than fully understanding the role these parts of us play and working with those parts in their proper functioning.
It seems to me that it would be more effective to gain an understanding of the correct functioning of these parts and work with them instead of manipulating them.
I'll give you an example: I attended a 3-day seminar in the fall of 2004. I thought it was a very powerful seminar. I thoroughly enjoyed it and gained much from it.
For one of the exercises we put a thick rubber band around our wrist. We had previously written down negative beliefs that we had about money. So, we had to take one of those beliefs and read it out loud. After doing so, we would snap our wrist with the rubber band. The goal was to snap it hard so it created significant pain.
Upon creating the pain, we would then lightly and soothingly rub the painful wrist while whispering the opposite of the negative belief. We did that 3 times with the negative belief.
After we completed the exercise, we would then try to think of the negative belief, and we couldn't do it. The explanation was that our Subconscious Mind is programmed to avoid pain.
So by associating the negative thought with pain, we created a painful thought that the Subconscious Mind moved away from; and, thus, we no longer had the negative thought.
We were instructed to do the snap exercise every time we noticed a limiting thought of any kind. This was designed to help us eliminate negative and limiting thoughts. So, that's what I did for a while.
During this time, I recalled something that Anthony Robbins wrote in a couple of his books. In one of his first books he had presented a powerful technique utilizing NLP (Neuro-Linquistic Programming) to create immediate change in thought and attitude.
In a later book, he discussed the idea of consistent conditioning to maintain the changes created through techniques like he had presented in his earlier book. He explained that he discovered that if he didn't consistently condition himself, the changes created through the technique would gradually disappear and the original thought and feeling would return.
That made me wonder about the whole process of change.
As I continued to snap my wrist seeking to create a change in my thoughts and attitudes, I couldn't help but feel that this was more like "spanking" the mental and emotional parts of me to comply with what I wanted to think and feel.
I concluded that the mental and emotional parts of me had to be functioning properly and that there was a reason I was thinking and feeling as I did. I determined that there had to be a way to affect the root cause of the negative thoughts and emotions without the "spanking."
Finally, during this time I reflected on several experiences I had had where I had learned a new truth through the Spirit, or Infinite Intelligence, within me. I experienced that when I had gained a greater understanding of truth through that Spirit, there was an immediate change in my thoughts, emotions, and behavior. I didn't have to make any effort at all. The change was instantaneous and lasting.
I began to see the power of truth.
Taking all of this into consideration, I came to conclude that if we could correctly understand how the different parts of us function and work together, we could address the core, or fountain, of the thoughts and feelings we have, and we wouldn't have to use a lot of the "mind science" that is taught today.
I began an intense search to learn how all the parts of us function properly to create an internal oneness that creates without limits. The understanding I've gained through this search is another significant and unique part of my offering.
Third, and possibly most important, as I just mentioned, through my own personal experience I learned the power that Truth has to transform us. Truth is what causes the mental and emotional parts of us to function properly, as I'll explain in detail through Savor the Fruits of Life.
I have come to see that Truth is the key that unlocks the door to an unlimited future. By understanding what Truth is, the difference between Absolute Truth and Relative Truth, and the process for recognizing and distinguishing the Truth, we can remove all obstacles to our truly plucking and savoring the Ulimate Fruits of Life.
Truth, then, is the cornerstone of everything I offer.
Fourth Question: Why should I trust Dave?
I would declare that you shouldn't trust Dave Sharp. Rather, I would have you trust the concepts and principles I share as they are confirmed by the Spirit of Truth, or Higher Wisdom, within you.
I seek with my whole soul to offer you the Truth as I understand it, but I recognize that I don't have a full understanding of anything. Therefore, you can't trust me. You can, however, trust completely the Spirit of Truth within you. This Spirit of Truth will guide you to an understanding of all Truth as you sincerely seek to understand it.
Having said that, I recognize that trust is critical in any relationship, and I desire to have a very long-term relationship with you. Therefore, to maximize your "trust" in me, I will always seek to offer you the most value I can.
I believe that if I can continue to add great value to your life by providing ideas that can positively impact your life, then over time a "trust" will be built. The "trust" I desire to create is not that you'll just accept what I say as the truth, but rather that you feel that I'm sincere in my desire to bring you valuable information that can benefit you in some way.
So, I caution you to not get lulled into trusting what I say because of me, no matter how much you may come to like what I have to say. I believe totally and completely in what I share with you, but I would suggest you ALWAYS confirm what I say with the Light within you, which is the only sure way to have confidence in anything I present.
Plus, I've learned that as my own understanding increases, what I say today will be a little different from what I say tomorrow. That's just the nature of growth.
I can tell you that I've come to understand that we can never blindly trust anyone, no matter how much credibility, or lack of credibility, they have. The fact is that we alone are accountable and responsible for what we believe.
That's especially true as we gain a greater understanding of how Life works and how we are actually co-creators of our world.
Fifth Question: How can I know if what Dave says is true?
I believe there is a sure process for identifying and understanding Truth. This process requires that we look to the Light within, the Source of all Truth, which is called the Spirit of Truth, Infinite Intelligence, or one of many other names.
The first step I would suggest is to read what I write throughout the sections of this site. See how what you read feels to you. Does it "ring true" to you?
Next, I encourage you with all the energy of my soul to master the process of identifying the Truth of all things through the Source of All Truth. It will never fail you. It can become an anchor to your soul in guiding you in the paths that will lead you to a fullness of happiness, prosperity, abundance, and freedom, both personally and professionally.
I'll be discussing this process throughout my writings.
So, there you have it. I hope I've been able to answer the main questions you have about me to your satisfaction. More especially, I hope that you feel that I have a lot to offer you as you seek to create a better life for yourself.
